Government and agencies in Canada and the United States are developing plans to mark the bicentennial of the War of 1812, which will be a three year commemoration beginning in 2012. For the Ontario government, the Ministry of Tourism and Culture are facilitating the development of a Provincial strategy which includes seven regional groups.

Each municipality will be designating a representative to attend regional planning meetings and coordinate efforts in commemorating this important moment in history.  The City of London has designated the London Heritage Council to represent London at the Western Corridor War of 1812 Bicentennial Alliance and coordinate the War or 1812 Commemoration events to take place in London.

The London Heritage Council has been meeting regularly with this group. In late summer or early fall of 2010, the London Heritage Council will be facilitating an information session for all parties within London who may be interested in the War of 1812 commemoration. From there, we will bring you information on how to become involved in this significant commemoration.

The London Heritage Council will be sending out regular emails to keep you informed as planning continues. If you wish to be added to this email list, please send your contact information to: info@londonheritage.ca.
