Canadian Medical Hall of Fame

Let your students imagine making medical discoveries so meaningful that their portraits are hung next to the stories of the Hall of Fame laureates. Students learn about Canada’s past and present medical heroes, meet local scientists working with the latest technology, and dream about making discoveries of tomorrow.

Museum School at The Canadian Medical Hall of FameLocation & Mandate

The Canadian Medical Hall of Fame (CMHF) is located in downtown London, Ontario on the southeast corner of Dundas and Wellington. CMHF is the only national charitable organization dedicated to celebrating the accomplishments of Canada’s medical and health sciences heroes.

Program Information

Students start their Museum School week at CMHF by learning about the laureates and their remarkable accomplishments. Next, they enter the world of a scientist attempting to discover a miraculous hand cream. This marks the beginning of the students’ quest for an even greater contribution to health care.

The week continues with a series of workshops, excursions to local historic sites, and visits with medical researchers using the latest scientific technology. Each student completes a self-portrait and prepares a biography which describes their medical discovery 50 years from now. The week ends with a mock induction ceremony, during which time the Museum School class is inducted into The Canadian Medical Hall of Fame and the students’ self-portraits and biographies are hung alongside the portraits of the Laureates. The goal is to link the past with the future in a meaningful way, and inspire students to dream about ways in which they could someday contribute to a healthier society.

Teachers work with the CMHF staff to develop the program schedule for the week. The schedule includes activities and trips organized by the CMHF, as well as teacher-planned activities and instructional time.
