Through discussions and consultations with a number of organizations during 2008, it became clear that there is an obvious need for local training opportunities for those working in the heritage and cultural sector. The London Heritage Council (LHC) launched a training program to meet the needs of the sector including grant writing, front-line staff visitor services, digitization and emergency and disaster planning.

Emergency and Disaster Preparedness For Cultural Institutions

In partnership with the LHC and the City of London, institutions in London created a City wide emergency and disaster plan based on this informative two-day course. Hosted by the LHC and delivered by the Canadian Conservation Institute, these experts were able to share past experiences and plans for the future with attendees from local museums, cultural institutions, the City of London, and the LHC. Basic Emergency Management Course

Taking place May 23-25 and November 2-4 2012, this three day, provincially-recognized course will provide participants with a comprehensive overview of today's emergency management best practices. It's a program to consider if you have any responsibilities related to emergency management.

Participants will have the opportunity to use London's new Emergency Operations and Training Centre at the #12 Firehall in Byron. The Emergency Management Ontario certified course has been enhanced with local examples and includes a cross-section of departments, agencies and other community partners. The days will include the opportunity to work through some group activities, including a tabletop exercise. Representatives of London police, fire, EMS, hospitals, and the health unit will make presentations on their organization.
